Wolkite
Wolkite is a little town at 155kms away from Adis Abeba in the south western part of Ethiopia. It is the home of about 40,000 people. It has a very long hitory, which goes back about 150 years. It is named by King Aba Jiffar and it means in Oromiffa "in the middle"; to mean in between A.A and Jimma. The firest people to settle and live(dwell) in that town were soldgers, who were deployed there because of the need to avoid the problem that was posed by some 'shiftas'(robbers) in the long distanse trede rout; that starts from the naturally gifted land of south west Ethiopia. Specifically frome Bonga and its surroundigs. Wolkite was situated in the middle of that lukerative trede route. Bette Geraghes were then the native people in that town who settled around what is now called Mariam Sefer. and the town grew because of the Mariam church around of which people settle and learn church education as it was the only available education. Then during Emperor Hailesselasie, the town grew higher as different infrastructures were bult like Ras Ze Selassie Elementary School, which is 80 years old now. And the town got its present status in a such way and history.
